On Becoming Maestro
A few months ago I met a world-famous conductor prodigy on the beach in Miami. This week, she invited me to attend her big concert and when I took the podium I got goosebumps.
First, some backstory...
Several years ago I'm searching for my next big innovation. I want to level up my business, find new creative juice, and to lead my partnerships with more clarity.
And one of the things I learn is that in order for my business to innovate, one image of myself (as the leader) has to end...and a new image needs to begin.
So to determine my new image I go on this radical journey into creativity and imagination when...
I Get Inspired To Become A Conductor
Not in the traditional sense.
But the connector who, with magic wand capacities, is able to bring people somewhere extraordinary and new.
I'm so loving the role of conductor that I start dressing more originally, I take art classes, and close friends start calling me Maestro. Steve Schwab even sent me a baton signed by Keith Lockheart!
With my work, conductor starts reading rooms more subtly and attempting bold new learning experiences with clients, some of which blow minds (others of which fall flat).
In my speeches I start playing with suspense, passion, and awe...I receive my first standing ovation and oh what an unforgettable moment it was!
The concept of conductor has been nothing short of life-changing.
I'm becoming MAESTRO!
So I'm Walking On The Beach in Miami
When I randomly (not-so-randomly?) meet Molly Turner, a world-famous conductor prodigy who has just recently been brought in to lead Miami’s New World Symphony.
I cannot believe my ears: a real live conductor!
I tell Molly all of this (of course she loves it!) and she invites me to attend their first concert (Gustav Holst’s The Planets) at a fancy concert hall downtown.
I enter and the entire auditorium feels smooth and ORGANIC: like a spaceship made entirely out of wood.
The orchestra tunes and the audience goes perfectly silent. Then Molly comes walking out on stage wearing all black to this gleaming podium set in the center and proceeds to deliver one of THE. MOST. badass human feats I have ever witnessed.
I Am Speechless.
After the concert, Molly gives me a tour backstage where she walks (with me clinging behind) confidently through security doors and raving fans and fellow musicians who all look up to her like a rockstar.
I get to see her green room, I meet the other musicians, and Molly asks this official-looking dude to step aside so we can walk out onto the stage.
At this point the auditorium is empty and the moving guys in full swing.
But I naturally made my way to the podium to have my little moment and recognize how inner change affects outer reality.
I wasn't aware of it but Molly snapped a pic :)
