Switching Chairs

Written by Matt Landau | 7/12/24 11:42 AM

So I'm sitting down to interview Jordan Bower (one of the facilitators for our inaugural retreat over New Years) as the final episode in the new Here Goes Nothin' podcast.

And we're about an hour into the interview but it's just NOT flowing (at least, it's not flowing like we know we can flow) so Jordan suggests we stop and go outside for a breath of fresh air...

Outside Jordan thinks he knows why: the sound engineer was moving around a bunch in the background and so distracting that he couldn't focus...so we come up with the idea to switch chairs then we go back into the studio and start again...

So I'm looking at sound engineer (who is moving around way too much) and Jordan says "hey, I feel like Matt Landau in this chair...I'm gonna ask you a question...tell me about this whole Here Goes Nothin' retreat..." and this small question kicked off a full 45 minutes of Jordan interviewing ME.

With the tables turned, I had no time to prepare and I had NEVER talked about this before and what came out was nervous, excited, heartfelt, pure, and real.

This creative intervention (stopping when it's not working) then coming at the challenge with a new approach was like the "divine inspiration" breakthrough of the entire series which is all about creative risks in business. We'll begin publishing the full episodes soon!
